Live tank circuit breaker

GL 314 BPS
Live Tank bypass switch

Rated voltage 800 kV

Rated frequency 50/60 Hz

Rated current 4000 A

Rated short-circuit breaking current 50 kA

High mechanical strength and very low probability of re-tripping according to IEC 62271-100 class M2 and C2

Detachable option for easy and quick installation

Closing resistor placed in the same gas volume as the shut-off chamber

GE’s GL 314 bypass switch (BPS) is designed to very quickly close and protect series capacitor banks in the event of overhead line failures. It is equipped with excellent live tank circuit breaker technology such as third generation self-blowing switching chambers and spring actuators (FK). These reliable connection chambers operate on the principle of optimized self-exhaust. FK3 type mechanisms equip the entire range of circuit breakers with over 180,000 references around the world.

The GL 314 BPS drive is reliable and tested in practice, confirming high mechanical strength and a very low probability of re-tripping in accordance with the IEC 622271-100 class M2 and C2 standard. GE live tank circuit breakers provide high levels of reliability, even in extremely harsh environments and climates, and enable quick, easy installation and commissioning with long maintenance intervals.

Components

  • Three pole design.
  • One self-exhaust interrupter with protection rings in the upper and lower position.
  • The supporting pole consists of two to four insulators (depending on the ground voltage).
  • FK3 spring drive equipped with a position indicator visible from the outside.
  • Reliable temperature-compensated density meter with two-stage signaling and three-color indicator.
  • Easy access to the SF6 filling valve (DILO type).
  • Seals suitable for temperatures down to -50° C.
  • Hot-dip galvanized steel parts and drive housing made entirely of aluminum.

Options

  • Standard low voltage equipment provides “additional equipment available.”
  • Composite insulators are available.
  • Seismic dampers for high seismic requirements can be supplied as standard.
  • Pressure relief system for passive protection of both the substation and personnel.
  • CBWatch: a compact and modular solution for circuit breaker monitoring.

Installation and maintenance

  • Factory adjustment before shipment – no adjustment necessary during installation and commissioning.
  • Possibility of dismantling the connection chamber without dismantling the entire pole column.

Testing

The Bypass switch has met the requirements of national and international standards. This has been confirmed by comprehensive testing based on the latest versions of IEC standards.

Quality

GE management systems (ISO 9001:2008), environmental management (ISO 14001:2004) and occupational health and safety (OHSAS 18001:2007) define procedures for the development and production of high voltage switches.
